A NOTE FROM THE WEBMASTER

Bethlehem, a beleaguered city where life nevertheless keeps on going, experiences what in Britain we call 'World War Two Spirit'.

Nowadays 'developed' countries have become socially less-developed. We hardly have time for each other. Community and family support goes only so far - then it's a helpline, social workers or medication.

Palestinians experience relative social wealth and economic shortage. They live in a 'generosity economy' in which everyone pulls together and does their bit more than we do in the West, and everyone is somehow catered for.

I consider the pro bono help I give the Hope Flowers School to be a 'fair trade'. It's an exchange, not just giving. I help fix support and opportunities for Palestinians and they help me feel part of something meaningful. After visiting Bethlehem, I came home feeling much more human.

If you're able, go and visit the school - it could be the trip of your life. Alternatively, write something about your home town and your life, and send it to the school for the kids to read. Or make a donation. Or tell the teachers at your local school to check out this website, for their interest. Or support the scholarship fund for children at Hope Flowers.

Many good causes worldwide seek our support. Hope Flowers is one where we can make a personal difference, developing a direct relationship with the school and its children. This concerns a bundle of important issues: education, Bethlehem, peace in the Holy Land and removing the root causes of terrorism. A localised action with longterm global consequences. Please consider adding your bit!

"If you think you're too little to make a difference, try spending a night in a room with a mosquito!"
- a quote from the Dalai Lama.

How to Help

We greatly appreciate your support. Here are various ways you can play a part in progress at the Hope Flowers School:

Donate. Make a simple donation or a recurring donation (such as $/£/€10 per month) by credit card. There are other donating options too (cheques, direct debits and fund transfers).

Volunteer. Come to Bethlehem as a volunteer to work and stay with us at the school, perhaps for 1-3 months.

Visit Us. Make a rather unique visit to the historic pilgrimage town of Bethlehem, staying at the school, meeting people, travelling around and experiencing real life on the West Bank.

Form a support community. If ten people donate €/$/£10 each per month for a year, that's €/$/£1,200! You could even send one of your group members to come and see the school, to establish a more personal relationship.

Practical assistance. The school seeks PR, networking and fund-raising enthusiasts, and contacts with teachers and educationalists. If you have specific skills or resources which might be useful, please or the school with a suggestion.

Contacts. If you know someone who might be interested in our work, please point them to this site, www.hopeflowersschool.org. We appreciate exchanges of knowledge and contact. We also appreciate 'leads' and contacts concerning funding, educational and support possibilities.

Thank you for considering supporting the school!
